Skin Needling Aftercare

Before the Treatment

  • No Retin-A products or applications 12 hours prior to your treatment.
  • No auto-immune therapies or products 12 hours prior to your treatment.
  • No prolonged sun exposure to the face 24 hours prior to your treatment. We are unable to treat sunburned skin.
  • On the day of the treatment, please keep your face clean and do not apply makeup.

What Can Be After Skin Needling

  • Immediately after your treatment, you will look as though you have a moderate to severe sunburn and your skin may feel warm and tighter than usual. This is normal and will subside after 24 hours. You may see slight redness after 24 hours but only in minimal areas or spots.
  • With treatments on stretch marks the redness will be contained within the stretch mark and the skin will be raised and warm to the touch, your skin may remain red for between 1-4 days as the skin heals.

Aftercare for Skin Needling Treatment

  • You may experience the following symptoms after skin needling (digital and roller)
  • Flaking skin, dryness and itching, tight sensation to the skin, swelling, redness.
  • Avoid excessive exposure to the sun for a minimum of 6 weeks following the treatment; use a high factor (minimum SPF30) sunblock with UVA and UVB protection.  Failure to adhere to this may result in discolouration of the skin.
  • Swelling differs from person to person, to reduce this you can apply a cool pack to the skin for 10 minutes in the first 48 hours.

For the next 7 days:

  • For at least 3 days post treatment, do NOT use any Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C (in a low pH formula) or anything perceived as ‘active’ skincare.
  • Apply a healing balm 3 times a day using a cotton bud and ensure that your hands are clean to avoid infection.
  • Do not expose the area to extreme heat or cold until healed
  • Do not go swimming for at least 48 hours post-treatment.
  • No exercising or strenuous activity for the first 2-5 days following treatment.
  • Do not wear makeup on the area for at least 7 days.
  • Do not itch, pick or scratch as this could cause scarring and infection.
