What is Skin Needling

Skin needling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a process where connective tissue in the lower skin layers is broken up encouraging the growth of new strands. Collagen and elastin are building blocks responsible for keeping the skin plump and firm, as we age, we naturally lose these proteins resulting in lines, wrinkles and loss of elasticity or firmness in the skin.
The most noticeable areas for this loss are crows feet around the eyes, number 11 lines between the eyes and sagging of the skin and underlying muscles resulting in defined lines between the nose and mouth (nasolabial) and sagging of the chin and jowl area.

Skin as We age

acne scarring
By the time we reach our 30’s we will have lost between 30%-50% percent of our collagen and elastin, in previous years, the only treatments available to reverse these signs of ageing were injectables (Botox and fillers such as Juvederm), or more invasive procedures like thread or face lifts.
This is where skin needling can help, it’s a straightforward but effective process that ensures that the production of both the collagen and elastin are stimulated accordingly.

Benefits of Skin Needling

  • Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes
    Improvement in skin firmness
    Reduction in cellulite
    Reduction in sun damage/dark spots/melisma
    More even skin tone
Improvement in texture of acne scars, stretch marks
Reduction in appearance of smokers lines around the mouth
Improvement in elasticity of skin under the arms and on the abdomen

The Treatment

The treatment will be carried out either using a dermal roller or a digital skin needling system depending on the area to be treated. Customised serums such as hyaluronic acid are applied to maximise the efficacy of the treatment, penetrating the skin to the critical dermal layer where the building blocks of the skin are formed. We use topical anaesthetics to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible, although these may not be required for depths below 1mm.

We generally recommend a course of 3-6 treatments (depending on the area and condition of the skin) at 4-6 week intervals. You will see some immediate improvements following the treatment but the real benefits will be seen over the coming months as the skin remodels itself at a deeper level.
